Single Database Vs Multiple Databases

Hi,

On Single Physical Server, with Single MySQL Instance:
We have 90 million records in each of 20 tables. We are thinking about splitting data into 25-25-25-15 millions into 4 databases on Single MySQL Instance, assuming it will give better performance.

Will Multiple Databases really perform better than Single Database, where hardware is same for both scenarios?
Could someone shed some light on this and help me.

Regards,
Srinivas
