MySQL 4.1 is an inmemory cluster, it stores data and indexes in memory. I don't know how about others here, but I am really waiting for 5.1 which will store data on disk, as well as in memory. If now you put limits, higher than available memory on your data nodes, it will swap a lot and will become slow and unstable. I wouldn't suggest you to do like this, then better stay with traditional database server.
