2 questions: one is with memory usage and the other is with blobs

I have two questions that I have not been able to get answered in my hours of researching...

Firstly: all over the play I see this equation for how much memory a node will need on a cluster but nowhere does it say if this amount in real-time or total. Basically is this a number for how much memory is active (or being inserted, updated, selected, etc) or is it a total? And does this memory include all types like blobs or text?

Secondly: I have not been able to find how exactly blobs are stored in MySQL. For example I know that in Oracle there are pointers to files on disk, but how does MySQL handle these? And does MySQL Cluster change anything for the handling?

Thanks for all the help and have a great day
Dustin
