Out of transaction markers

When I try and alter a table I get this error. I'm running a ndb mysql cluster on ubuntu 14.04.
mysql> ALTER TABLE polar_defs.attribute_header AUTO_INCREMENT = 4000000;
ERROR 1297 (HY000): Got temporary error 279 ‘Out of transaction markers in transaction coordinator’ from NDBCLUSTER
