Duplicate database primary and secondary email server

Hi friends,
I am starting to configure MySQL Replication to keep synchronized two database of two mail servers, one primary and one secondary (MX), in environment Debian Jessie and MySQL 5.5.50.

If possible I would like to know:

1) the duplication procedure is encrypted?
2) could the duplication procedure lock the master db tables?
