Backup Strategy: Best Practice?

I'm relatively new to the mySQL thing and was wondering if people would share their thoughts on the best backup strategy for a single mySQL database running a transactional website (auctions).

Basically I want to minimise, or ideally do away with completely, the chance of data loss in the case of failure.

So - what should I be thinking? daily backups + transactional log backups? Transactional replication to a remote DB? Something more exotic?

All (constructive) comments appreciated!
