root not @ localhost

Hello All,
I've managed to get root disconnected from localhost and it is now 'root'@'(new location)' and it seems to have no privileges as I can't access the User account anymore and all my preset backup routines are gone.
Is there anyway to restore root back to localhost?
I've noticed user.MYI, user.MYD, db.MYI, db.MYD, user_info.MYI, user_info.MYD, user_info.frm were all modified today. If I replace those files with versions from a previous backup will it restore root to localhost?
