Connecting from WinXP in Parallels to MySQL on Mac OS via ODBC on the same machine

Has anyone managed to connect from WinXP via ODBC to a MySQL db on Mac OS?

The clinch is that the WinXP is running from Parallels on the same machine as the MySQL db which is on a Macbook Pro with Mac OS X.

I'm trying to connect to the Mysql db via ODBC from the VM WinXP and getting various kinds of errors.

Example;
Access denied for....
"xxxx" has no priviliage to ...

Something like that, I just logged off so do not have the exact errors. Will post them later tomorrow.
