ODBC Connector 5.1 ignores Connection Timeout

I am running the ODBC connector 5.1 on Vista SP2.

I had a bad configuration loaded. When I called connection.open to a machine that was turned off, I had a 15 sec timeout.

So I played around, and I cannot seem to set the connection timeout, the TO is always 15.

Well, that's not completely the case. If I try and connect to a windows machine that is up but not running mySQL, the call comes back within a second.

Connecting to a system running mySQL works.

I have not tried to connect to a system running mySQL, but sabotaging the server so that it will not connect correctly, to see what happens.

I cannot find any info about this. Is there a bug, is this not supported?
