...thanks again...I can demonstrate the problem using isql which ought to make it trivial to investigate. So I think it's worth filing a report to see if it does uncover anything unexpected.
I wrote a short test app but that definitely uses a call to SQLPrepare because the code I was following (in another component) did so. So I will put in a report based on isql and see what comes from that.
I have a few days leave coming up so might be a little slow in responding but we can't go far so it won't be too slow!
If the bug report comes back "clean" then we can set about looking at your suggested alternative without any doubts at the back of the mind..
