Does this have any repercussions on the way communication is handled with the database? I had the same problem in connecting with the database and this solved it for me. But now I have problem to display retrieved data in the console. I have posted my problem here:

but I would appreciate feedback if anyone has had a similar problem after using this character encoding - I tried using LATIN1 as well, since mysql is set with latin1 as default. Did anyone have some similar problem?
