Todd,
are you saying that setQueryTimeout would behave like killing query in such short term as 2 millis? We do in fact use setQueryTimeout and almost always with 1 second. This kill however occurs only ever so unfrequently.

I also found out that with Java 1.7 the setQueryTimeout no longer makes any effect if we use JBoss managed pool of connections. The query always obeys what the JBoss config (JNDI) has.
