Steve,

When posting issues like these, it helps if you can post the version of the server and the JDBC driver, as well as the URL you used to connect, and some sample DDL of the table(s) in question...Otherwise everybody will be guessing what they are, which takes a lot of round-trips....

If you can do that, we should be able to help you. My guess is you have a misconfiguration somewhere, either in the URL you are using, or in the character sets you've setup for your tables.
