The XPath functions ExtractValue() and UpdateXML() will be in 5.1.5-alpha. If you're building from source, no special ./configure options are required to enable them.

They are now documented here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/xml-functions.html

Note that some details of their behaviour are still subject to change at this time.
