Hi Thomas,
No idea about wownode, but when you say 'MySQL still could not detect it', you mean the Windows Installer of MySQL Connector/Python?
Note that you can still install Connector/Python from source, using:
c:\> python setup.py install
within the folder of the ZIP archive. It's maybe not as elegant as using the MSI, but changing registry isn't either.
I will check again on Windows XP (if I can still boot it).
