In case this is still a problem:
I use mysql python connector in anaconda on os-x; but I installed it using the following command
conda install mysql-connector-python
This is in the cheat sheet
http://conda.pydata.org/docs/_downloads/conda-cheatsheet.pdf
First time around I tried to change configuration files manually but this is easier.
