Installing DBI and DBD-mysql on Mac OS X

OK,

It appears that I am attempting the impossible. After reading endless threads of people attempting to get Perl working with MySQL on Mac OS X - I fell like I should give up. However, I would really like to get this working. I need to manipulate a lot of data in a MYSQL database and I have Perl scripts that I wrote about 8 years ago that will do the trick perfectly. However, getting Perl talking to MySQL on Mac OS X seems to require a lot of Voodoo.

cpan was a dead end ... did not work at all, so I am trying from scratch.

First of all I am running Mac OS X 10.6.6 with the latest version of the developer tools installed. I installed earlier today "5.5.9-log MySQL Community Server (GPL)" and it is working fine.

I have downloaded "DBI-1.616" and "DBD-mysql-4.018".

Starting with DBI, "sudo perl Makefile.pl" works perfectly .. ends with

"Checking if your kit is complete...
Looks good"

no errors or warnings.

Now .. the pain.

"sudo make"

I can't get past this "lipo: can't open input file ...." error.

Stuck. Stuck hard. Been stuck for hours.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
