Hi, just read about your problem. It should be too late to reply you now, but here is the solution:
http://www.orthogonalthought.com/blog/index.php/2007/05/mysql-database-migration-and-special-characters/

you will have to alter the able and change to 'text character set utf8'.

Hope it helps anyone who comes across.
