MySQL 4.1 with PHP 5.0.3 hangs regularly !

Hi,
I have a problem. Configuration first:
Hardware:
CPU: PIII 666 Mhz
RAM: 512 MB
Software:
OS: Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4
Application Software:
PHP 5.0.3
PHPMailer 1.72
Apache 2.0.44
MySQL 4.1
I have a website developed in PHP running on the system using the MySQL server at the backend.
The problem is that the MySQL 4.1 server hangs on a regular basis at any random time. Errors like "Can't connect to MySQL server (10055)" are thrown.
The issue is that when the MySQL server hangs, certain windows services are also disabled, including the remote management services (which I use to remotly conect to the system as it is located on a different site), hence, I am unable to log in to the machine during that period. All I can see are errors displayed on the website.
Please help.
