If that's a comma-separated list of values in one column, it's a design error violating a basic rule, atomicity, one value per cell. Fix it.

Otherwise: ... coursename rlike 'b\.?e' will do your match, but it will also match 'Abe Lincoln', so you may have to refine your search logic.
