I am not coming up with any ideas. The behavior of this 'table does not exist' message suggests that the table does not exist but is going to exist because the actual creation is deferred, or that the table does exist but soon won't since it is being dropped but the actual deletion hasn't happened yet. This also points out the different execution environment in effect when invocation is via a stored function. This may be a bug.
