Sorry for the very long delay in answering your post. I guess I stopped looking for responses too soon, and didn't find your response until I went looking for this subject again.
I have been able to write (in C and curses) an ISQL like front end for MySql that works, but not nearly as well as the Informix ISQL package, so I'm still using Informix and picking away at improving my own frontend. In other words, I haven't gotten very far. I still need to tackle writing a report writer and making the forms package easy to adapt to various tables.
