client connection to server

hi everybody,
everytime i try to connect the computer acting as the server for the mysql database, i get this error message: "connection failed: [HYOOO][MYSQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver]Can't get hostname for your address" this message comes when i use the computers ip address 192.168.1.44 instead of the normal 127.0.0.1.
when i try to connect using the normal server ip "127.0.0.1" it tells me that it cannot connect to mysql server from my client machine even if the server is up and running. i really need your help.
