Valor devuelto FUNCTION

Hola, mi problema es el siguiente:

Pretendo hacer una función que me inserte una fila nueva pero que me devuelva el valor del nuevo identificador insertado.

La primera parte es fácil pero no se como recuperar el id de la fila para devolverlo.
