no me deja conectar con localhost mysqlworkbench

hola, he instalado lamp en ubuntu, el servidor esta ok, todo comprobado, pero no me deja conectarme con mysql worbench, pongo como usuario root, y como password vacio, ¿cual puede ser el problema?
