Contract-to-hire position for mid level MySQL & Oracle DBA to support world class e-commerce client in San Jose, CA. Job will consist of about 25% MySQL DB support and 75% Oracle. So, it requires some exposure & professional experience with MySQL, ideally 1 year or more of professional MySQL DBA support experience. This is a mid level position requiring a minimum of 3 years industry experience, but probably more than 7 years industry experience will be too senior for this role.
Primary Job Responsibilities
* Install and configure new and existing databases. Review and update schemas, indexes, and data in those databases. Setup backup and replication. Provide data dumps and updates.
* As needed, develop knowledge and expertise in administering all the classified environments, including web servers and application servers, to provide backup for the other DBA's.
* Provide estimates for completing tasks and deliver as close to those estimates as changing priorities and requirements permit.
* Create scripts to automate repititous tasks and provide documentation and training on how to use these scripts.
* Work closely with developers, product managers, development managers, and marketing to understand requirements and propose creative and timely solutions.
* Work closely with the site Operations teams to understand and leverage knowledge, processes, and tools to get tasks done efficiently and quickly.
* Propose and implement solutions that deliver velocity and performance first, followed closely by quality, reliability, and scalability.
* As needed, provide on-call responsibilities with train conductors, to keep weekly features rolling out and to keep production applications and environments always working.
* Stay current on new versions and technologies that can provide new solutions or enhance existing features and ensure good velocity, performance, quality, reliability, and scalability.
Job Requirements
• 4+ years experience in database administration of scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant applications in Windows and UNIX environments.
• Proven experience with Oracle or MySQL. Must be willing to learn new database technologies and tools.
• Specific experience with system administration of Windows 2000, Linux, and Solaris environments a big plus.
• Experience with developing scripts to automate DBA tasks another big plus.
• Proven results oriented person that can do independent work in a delivery focus organization.
