Dynamic row length

Hi,

Release 5.0 promises, to quote: "Dynamic length rows for MEMORY tables". I see that they now allow VARCHARs in 5.0.3 (even larger than 255). The "show table format" also says that the row format is dynamic. However, the row length is still fixed at the total possible width of all columns added together.

Anyone knows whether this will change later on in 5.0.x and truly be dynamic? It makes quite a difference in memory usage! And if so, do you know how fragmentation will be managed?

Thanks!

-Nicolas
