I suppose we should point out that what your doing is extremely simple in plain SQL, there is not need to use the procedural extensions. I'm sure you know this anyway but wanted to point it out anyway and also to mention the following.
If you can do someting in straight SQL do it there, if you can't then use then Procedural SQL extension, if you can't do that then revert to something external like PHP or Java.
