1) was this just a loop, with only this function?
2) Is there a lot of data in the tables?
3) what storage engine are you using
4) what output do you get when you explain your queries?
e.g. do:

EXPLAIN
select sum(amount) from reload where agentid=@Agent and compid=@Comp
\g

(dont do explain select..into - it hangs, bug 15463)

5) is your query cache on? see: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/query-cache.html
