I'm not sure hat you mean with pseudocode. In my SQL db I have a function as outlined in the original thread that I can use in my queries and views to replace the quotation marks or apostrophes with ft or in or nothing depending on what is before the " or ' also after the "or '. I would like to create the same function in MYSQL but it doesn't translate to mysql.
