You can't use SQL statements which access tables in Triggers at present. This includes INSERT UPADTES or DELETES.
I'm using 5.0.2 and this is the case, I assume it's still true in 5.0.3 also.
By it's own admition MySQL has limited support for triggers, to see more details and info on tiggers check out the documentation or look at my site
http://www.mysqldevelopment.com which has plenty of information on what you can (and can't) do with triggers in MySQL.
