what's the exact drop command you are using and what version is this?

In older versions of 5.0.x triggers were linked to the table, then later they were attached to the database. It might be it just needs a database qualifier, so....

drop trigger xyz;

becomes

drop trigger db.xyz;

where xyz is the trigger name and db is the database name.
