Create Trigger causes infinite loop

I am trying to create triggers on a WordPress 3.3.1 database running MySQL 5.1.36 using PhpMyAdmin 3.2.0.1
The db user has full rights.

Whenever I submit the Create statement, it enters an endless loop. No error is returned.

I suspect a permissions or configuration problem, but do not know where to look.

Can someone point me to some documentation that specifically describes such behavior or offers troubleshooting solutions.
