I am experiencing similar situation as I want to install the data dir in an alternate location. Preferrably a UNC path were I have unlimited storage to house DB's. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, changing the my.ini file to point to the unc path to no avail. When I edit the data dir path in the my.ini file I can't get the mysql service to restart. I get the infamous 1067 error message. All input will be greatly appreciated.
