I'm not sure what DWA means, but I suspect it is some kind of purchase order or work order. Either way, it is irrelevant to the pipe and coupling. If you could explain further the connection between DWA and pipe or coupling it might help.
From my experience though, a coupling is not derived from a pipe, but shares common characteristics. For instance a 50mm PVC pressure pipe requires 50mm PVC pressure connectors, however the common thing here is the material (PVC), the use (pressure) and the size (50mm). These are the characteristics that would make it match the pipe. For threaded pipes you would also have a thread type (e.g. 2" BSP brass)
So you would have a product code for whatever the product is (pipe or coupling) and the DWA (if it is what I imagine) would only require a list of products and quantities that make it up.
