Before I download the zip, I installed MySQL through the web installer but it gave so many errors (I couldn't even start the server) that I just uninstalled it completely.
I downloaded the zip file from this page:
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/
I read the instructions but I didn't think I needed to configure the files manually, so I just extracted and ran it.
Maybe it's necessary to set some options on the files, but like I said before, I just want the server's basic functionalities.
