Help understanding mysqldump: multiple databases

I need help understanding mysqldump as it pertains to multiple databases.

I have a VPS used as a webserver for a few Wordpress websites. I want to make a script to backup the databases to a remote server.

As I understand it, the mysqldump -A command will dump the databases into a single .sql file.

This doesn't make sense to my newbie mind. If I have multiple databases, why is it logical to backup to a single .sql file?

Does it make more sense to back each individual database db1 > db1.sql then db2 > db2.sql

Or am I missing something and it makes more sense to backup to a single .sql file?
