You need to upgrade to 5.5, then 5.6, then 5.7, then 8.0.

There is a possibility of shortcutting 5.1->5.6, see http://mysqlserverteam.com/upgrading-directly-from-mysql-5-0-to-5-6-with-mysqldump/

At each step, mysqldump your DBs, upgrade to the next version, load the previous dump, test and check that everything is correct.

You GUI interface after all that will be MySQL Workbench.
