Wait Federated tables are depricated?

Hi guys
My apologies if I've been living under a rock and this is old news, but, are federated tables going away?

If so, does anyone know where I can find arguments rational for doing so?

Aside from reading entire tables for read operations, I think as a "write to a remote source" utility, it works really well.

Hopefully someone was pulling an april fools joke on me but I wanted to go to the source. I couldn't find too much on it online (all searches just point to the mysql doc)

Anyway, anyones thoughts are greatly appriciated!
Thanks Much!
Kurt
