Thanks for leading me in the right direction Rick!

Here are some links I've found to help anyone else out with the same questions:
MyISAM: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/full-table.html
InnoDB: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/adding-and-removing.html
NDB: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/mysql-cluster-limitations-disk-data.html

I've used both MyISAM and InnoDB, and I'm looking in on the Maria and Falcon engines. Hopefully I can find the time to try both of them out, but the majority of my needs require using the NDBCLUSTER engine.

Thanks again. A 4.3-billion maximum number of rows would have changed my design decision, but 281 (2^48) trillion rows is more then I ever anticipate approaching!
