I thought I WAS the administrator

Dear All,

I apologize for what is probably a silly question for anyone who's run MySQL.

I downloaded it. Installed it. Supplied a password.

But when I try to start it...

[bil-lewiss-imac:local/mysql/docs] Bil% mysql -p
Enter password:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'Bil'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

The documentation directs me to talk to my administrator. Uh.... ????
