Mysqld error while restarting.

Hello,

There is a seriuos problem we are facing.Everyday we find that the mysqld service is not running.When we restart the service we get the error "mysqld dead but subsys locked". We have tried following steps:

1: rm -rf /var/lock/subsys/mysqld
2: rm -rf /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

Then we can restart the service. But the problem reoccurs the next day.
We are using Mysql version 3.23.

Anyone having the solution please help.
