Hello Andrew,

i finally found time to try this out. you can read about the result on our blog ( http://dev.mysql.com/workbench/?p=164 ) if you haven't already.
The function i wrote is a pretty basic one, it simply fetches matching objects (not only tables) found on the rootLayer of the current Diagram and places them on a new layer in a cascading pattern.
