Ah, I forgot to give the all-important details...
The machine that failed was a developer workstation running Windows Vista Business 32 bit. The MySQL version was 5.0.67.
The new developer workstation that we're trying to restore things onto is running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, and MySQL 5.1.50-community.
