If mysql was a subfolder of mysql56, that strongly suggests you had a mysql 5.6 installation with the mysql folder holding the privileges db---its name is mysql.

You tried importing it how exactly?

Evidently not. I agree that before you do more harm to your files, your best bet will be to hire a local MySQL pro to fix what can be fixed in your setup. And though there are very few who understand "all the intracies" of MySQL, you need to be aware that a kernel of such basic knowledge is essential for managing data in a MySQL instance.
