Can you please restate your question and probide some more details?

What exactly are you trying?

In general, the mysql protocol is backward compatible down to 3.23, given that you are not using any of the newer features (depending on the version: authentication methods, compression, ecnryption etc.). This goes both ways: older server/newer client and vice versa.
