Hi Alberto,
MySQL for Excel should not be conflicting at all since it does not uses ODBC connections to connect to MySQL Server instances, but rather uses our Connector/NET to do so.

I have followed guides to setup ODBC to connect to MySQL successfully.
So please re-check what you are doing or post detailed steps so we can try to help you in our best possible way.
