I don't have an exact answer for you unfortunately, since I do not understand how you connect to the MySQL database. Have you tried using MySQL Workbench to rule out that there is a problem on MySQL for Excel?
In order to connect to the MySQL database you should get the connection information you need to use, the server name or IP address, port number, username and password.
