systemd would appear to restart the service.
You can see mysqld restarting in the log snip I posted from mysqld.log.

The master DB is the one crashing. The slave usually manages to reconnect after the restart, and before the next crash.

You mean, if I disconnect the slave intentionally? I could try that ...

3.0.22 but we have already tried 3.0.21, same behaviour here.
