InnoDB and indexes

Warning, stupid question.

A friend of mine made some tests running with and without indexes in myISAM tables. Of course performance was much better running SELECT with an index.

However he claims that indexing the same table converted to InnoDB gave now performance optmizations using an index when SELECTing?

Are InnoDB tables auto indexing data some way?
